Allotments F Winterbourne Lane
Originally these allotments were considerably larger. The open stream taking the overflow from the Moor Pool ran down approximately where the road now is, then passed through a culvert under the two end cottages. On either side of the stream were allotments backing onto the houses in Margaret Grove and Moor Pool Avenue. In the 50s and 60s some of these were taken over for garages but at the time of the Grainger plc development there were still allotments either side although the stream was now fully covered and only reappeared in what is the Nettlefold Garden.
Allotment Clearance Days
The Association led by Nick Ball and a team of volunteers have cleared 2 of the largest allotments on area F. These have deen subdivided into 2 and 3 allotments and taken up very quickly. Brambles were cleared with a massive pile of waste accumulated. A contractor was engaged to drag the soil to break up the most stubborn roots and remove the excess material. There is now just one remaining allotment left to clear which will be tackled in 2021.
The area next to the fence has been retained to be planted as an orchard strip in the Autumn.
